i think we all know this one person…

Okay guys

I’m not going to say I won’t yell. I’ll probably yell. I usually yell. It’s my thing, I yell.

And this comic is really super gross and I’m upset that I’ve seen it on my dash at all, let alone multiple times. And it needs to be addressed. Now.

That being said, I’m trying to be… um… softer? On this one? Because back in middle school when all us youngin girls were guilty of ridiculous internalized misogyny, I was guilty of this. I’m serious, I thought this way, that girls who did this were annoying. You know what? I’ve grown up since then.

It’s time for all you guys to grow up too.

So here goes.

THINGS WRONG WITH THIS COMIC

PART ONE: IT’S SUPER ABLEIST

This comic is really gross because this girl who made the comic is poking fun at her thin friend who is complaining about being overweight. However, the issues displayed here (the one that really raises my hackles is when the girl looks in the mirror and comments on her weight) really focus on the fact that this “character” (because let’s face it, she’s probably based off someone the artist knows in real life) almost definitely has Body Dysmorphic Disorder - not always, but often associated with Eating Disorders. In this case, definitely associated with an ED.

SO INSTEAD OF BEING CONCERNED WITH YOUR FREIND WHO ALMOST DEFINITELY HAS AN EATING DISORDER YOU MADE A COMIC SO YOU COULD MAKE FUN OF HER.

WOW WHAT A GOOD FRIEND.

THINGS WRONG WITH THIS COMIC

PART TWO: THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN OVERWHELMINGLY ABLEIST

The overwhelming response to this comic has been positive?? And without criticism??? Like????? Does no one see how terrible this is? Did everyone forget that eating disorders exist?? DID YOU ALL IGNORE THEM SO YOU CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE THEM?????

My girlfriend, who’s blog is here, has an ED, and she’s the one who brought this to my attention before it even showed up on my dashboard. She said one of the people she follows added the tags “people like this are toxic and need to be cut out of your life”.

Wow thATS REALLY GROSS AND ABLEIST AND I CAN’T BELIEVE SOMEONE SAID THAT JESUS FUCKING CHRIST. YOU LITERALLY JUST SAID “people who are sick are such a burden, you should just forget them” DOES THAT REALLY SOUND LIKE A GOOD FUCKING PLAN TO YOU?? FUCK YOU.

And my girl, she’s really upset by this because look she’s been that friend. And instead of seeing people want to support and help, she’s seeing that so many people see this as a character flaw instead of a legitimate illness. That the problem is with their personality, not their mental health.

To quote her: “…taking your friends mental health and making it about you instead of like, supporting them… it’s rly gross and also rly upsetting when you’re the friend”

Do people not see how this mentality could hurt their friend? Really?

THINGS WRONG WITH THIS COMIC

PART THREE: IT’S REALLY SEXIST

I know just what you’re going to say.

*whining* “Look my friend does this all the time and I know for a fact she doesn’t have an eating disorder!”

Do you? Do you really?

*whining cont.* “Girls do this all the time. They’re just fishing for compliments.”

OH REALLY ASSHOLE.

AND WHOSE FAULT DO YOU THINK THAT IS, HUH???

LOOK EVEN IF SHE DOESN’T HAVE AN ED

YOU’RE STILL MAKING FUN OF GIRLS WHO ARE INSECURE ABOUT THEMSELVES BECAUSE LITERALLY EVERYTHING SHE’S EXPERIENCED IN HER LIFE SO FAR HAS TOLD HER SHE HAS TO WEIGH X POUNDS AND BE Y INCHES TALL AND WEAR A SIZE Z BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT PRETTY IS AND IF SHE DOESN’T FALL INTO THAT, SHE’S NOT BEAUTIFUL.

WHICH IS BULLSHIT. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?

THAT.

ISN’T.

HER.

FAULT.

This is STILL BODY SHAMING.

AND THATS NOT OKAY

EVER

So just a wrap up:

1. This comic is gross.

2. Please stop reblogging it because it’s gross.

3. I don’t know how not to yell. Or how to be nice, really.

That’s all. Continue on with your lives now, but with being less gross.

When my mom’s out in public, she sends me pictures of lesbians she sees.

Jesus I envy that relationship.

this is like the time when my mum took me bra shopping and the girl measuring me up was a lesbian and my mum said to me “i’ll go take a walk around the shop so you can talk to this nice young girl” and gave me a look as if to say “chat her up”.

My mum tries to push me towards cute possibly gay girls and then disappears. She did it in Primark once and I found her hiding behind a pile of knickers, watching me.

i love all of your moms

When I was 17 I was convinced I was in love with the check out girl at the grocery store 5 minutes away from our house, so my dad went to get milk and somehow found an appropriate point in the conversation while buying a half gallon of milk to give her my number. Three days later she called me and asked if I wanted to come over “to watch a movie” and long story short my dad got me laid thanks dad.

That last story is worth reblogging

If Fashion Ads Treated Men And Women The Same Way

A pretty absurd looking image, as writers Holly Eagleson and Lauren Wade found out when they remade a selection of controversial ads as part an essay on sexism for Take Part.
'I think as a whole we've just gotten used to seeing women depicted this way, and the only way we can change it is if we stop staying silent and demand change,' Ms Wade told The Huffington Post.
